Roman & Lucy Turn Seven

For those who do not know, Roman and Lucy are siblings whose birthday is April 18, 2007. This year they are seven (the official year of the adult dog) but still youngsters compared to Uncle Riley.

Roman celebrated at home with a party hat and birthday scarf. I'm not sure if he got any presents.

We happened to be dogsitting Lucy so Peter and Kendall left her a gift bag with specific instructions to open on April 18. She was very patient.

Until she wasn't. Lucy loves to see what is inside a bag.

It took her about five minutes to destroy her first toy.

Luckily her second toy was indestructible.

I Love This Picture

Kendall sent me this photo over the weekend. Their flight to Texas was canceled because of high winds so they had an extra day at home. They were going to come over to our house to watch the Browns game but Don wasn't feeling well and they didn't want to catch anything before their trip which was to take place the following day. I know that was a long run-on sentence.

I love this picture for multiple reasons:

1. I love how Lucy sits on top of chairs and couches like a cat and watches life go by outside the window when no one throws the ball for her.

2. I love that Lucy is lying on top of the Australian Shepherd blanket I made for her. Or did I make it for Peter?

3. I love how cozy this corner of their house looks. Kendall is such a good decorator.

4. I love that Peter is reading a book.

5. I love that Kendall took the picture and thought to send it to me.

Lucy Endorses My Pillow

I still haven't done a blog post on Seed to Table which the girls and I stopped at while in Naples last month. In the back corner of this establishment, there is actually a My Pillow storefront. I told the girls that Don absolutely loves his My Pillow, and he can barely live without it. Celeste said that Thom has one too, so we posed with the My Pillow owner, Mike Lindell (it was just a lifesize cut out). We got a big laugh out of this.

I didn't remember Nancy admitting that she had a My Pillow at home, but a few days after we returned from our trip, she texted the group with this photo and a caption, "What's not to love?"

The kicker came when Friday night, Peter and Kendall told us that Lucy has overtaken Peter's My Pillow at home. She loves it so much that Peter gets pushed aside at night. This photo was taken after Kendall told Lucy that it was bedtime.

Lucy says, "I love My Pillow...even if it belongs to Peter."

Snowed In

We got a lot of snow this week! On top of the foot we had before, we got another foot, and then several more inches this morning. I keep shoveling the front walk and a spot in the yard for Riley to do his business, and it keeps getting filled back in.

I'm also watching Lucy this week, so we need more room for business in the yard. Here's what Riley thinks of all this snow.

Lucy Girl

Lucy is getting used to her new home one piece of furniture at a time. While Peter and Kendall have been fixing up the kitchen and bathroom at their new place and slowly moving furniture, Lucy has been patiently (or not) watching. Here, she is wrapped up in the Aussie blanket I made Peter for his birthday. The dogs on the fabric look just like Lucy!

Yesterday, they moved almost the last of everything to their new house. I took a small load over in my car, and then I took Lucy with me back home. This is how she travels.

When she gets to our house, she immediately runs for the doggy toy basket. She's a very aggressive chewer, even now that she's 3 1/2, so I only let her have the chew toys for about 10 minutes. Then she spends the rest of the time trying to convince me that she needs the toys back. Here, she's giving me the side-eye.

Peter and Kendall are now going to stay with us for a little while as they finish up their bathroom. Lucy is getting comfortable in her fall hat. I think she likes to stay at "grandma and grandpa's" house.

Double the Trouble

To help out Katherine and Josh while they adjust to having Marina around, I brought Roman to our house for a couple of weeks. To give him a change of scenery, Peter and Kendall thought he'd like to sleepover with Lucy this weekend. These two have always been cute together, but now that they are a little older, they wrestle less and adventure more. Kendall sent me this photo of them looking out the window together while she was folding laundry in the upstairs bedroom.

I know which one is which from the back, but can you tell?

Roman and Lucy are Three!

It's been a tradition for Roman and Lucy (brother and sister) to get together on their birthday (April 18) to celebrate.

Roman and Lucy - age 1
But this year, Stay at Home Orders in both Ohio and Indiana prevented them from having a party.

Lucy was sad that she could be with her brother, so she made a phone call to sing Happy Birthday. Below are two videos. The first one is Lucy singing Happy Birthday to Roman and the second one is Roman listening to her.

Lucy Likes Butter

Being stuck at home has brought out the desire for fresh bread in a lot of households.
This is Peter's first attempt at making a loaf of Cinnamon Bread. It looks a little rustic, but they tell me it was delicious!

It was even more delicious with a slab of soft butter on it. The problem was, they forgot about the butter on the counter when they left home.

And there's nothing in this world that Lucy likes better than Butter! She can sniff it a mile away. She can tell when you take a package of it out of the refrigerator by the sound of the wrapper. Chocolate is to Riley as Butter is to Lucy. It is worth any consequence that may come  her way - even a few pounds on her girlish figure.

So Lucy ate that half stick of butter and licked every bit of the remains off the front of the stove.

The Grand Pets

"Want to play?"

While Katherine and Josh have been enjoying the beautiful scenery in New Zealand, I have been enjoying spending time with two of my grand pets - Roman and Penny. This is what I imagine they are thinking.

"Mind if I clip my nails right here on the dining table?"

"That was stressful!" (just from the groomer)

"Thank you for taking the lint roller out of the basket so it doesn't stick to my butt."

"I think I'm going to call it a day."

"Roman can't get me up here!"

"My mom's going to kill me when she sees this picture."

"I like the sound it makes when you turn the pages."

"I learned this from Riley."

They All Fall Down

Roman and Lucy had a great time playing with each other here last weekend. When Lucy tired of Roman and decided to curl up and chew on a toy, Roman would intentionally roll onto his back to get her to come after him.

She fell for it every time.

A little rolling around would eventually end up in this kind of situation. And they kept bumping the table where our Nativity set was displayed.

This is what it looked like when they were done.
