These cookies are perhaps one of the most calorie-dense ones I've ever made. You'll see what I mean when you look at the ingredient list. Seven-Layer bars are made up of nothing but sugar! Well, I take that back. Walnuts are their only redeeming feature. But boy are they delicious!
This recipe is so simple. The bars are assembled and then baked. Here's the recipe:
Seven Layer Bars
1/3 cup salted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 (14-ounce) can be sweetened condensed milk
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Place the butter in a 9-inch square pan, and place it in the oven while it preheats. Bake until the butter is melted, about 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven, and spread the graham cracker crumbs evenly over the butter.
Layer everything else in this order:
Sweetened flaked coconut, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and nuts. Don't mix the layers.
Pour the condensed milk evenly over the top of the nuts, and bake in the preheated oven until melted through, about 30-35 minutes.
Let the bars cool completely (a couple of hours) before cutting them into small pieces or the crust will crumble. Eat at your own risk.
