2016 Highlights

As I look back on 2016, I see that it has been a very eventful year for our family. There were some highs and some lows, but mostly highs! I'm so thankful for everything, and I feel incredibly blessed.

The year started with Peter taking a trip to Kenya. Here he is with some of his friends on an African safari.

I was finally able to get Carolyn on an airplane and we had a great trip to Naples in April.

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA championship!

Don and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by taking a Mediterranean cruise.

Daniel and Heidi got married!

Katherine and Josh became first-time home owners.

Peter graduated from college and got a "real job" teaching math.

Don and I enjoyed our 6th bike trip with VBT.

The Cleveland Indians went to the World Series (and almost won...)

Peter and Kendall got married!

My Beaver Creek Photos

I spent the afternoon walking around the village taking photos of people and things that I thought were interesting. Then Daniel spent some time showing me how to use Adobe Bridge and Lightroom. After editing my raw photos and turning them in the JPEG's, these are the ones I like best.

Daniel and Heidi before heading out to snowboard this afternoon.

I followed them to the gondola.

I thought it was hilarious that this woman was walking along in high heel shoes with a ski helmet on her head.

One of my favorites.

Skis upon skis.

Break time.

Fun on the ice rink.

I'm guessing he's from somewhere other than the U.S.

Dinner at Beano's Cabin

We went to Beano's Cabin for a special dinner tonight. This called for my abominable snowman outfit.

The outfit was to protect me from the cold ride up the mountain where the restaurant is located. This is the snowcat that pulled our sleigh.

The ride up wasn't as cold as the ride back down!

After we arrived and unloaded from the sleigh, we were ushered to a coat room where there were rows of slippers to fit every size feet. Taking off your boots was optional.

Daniel and Heidi opted in.

We enjoyed a 5-course meal, starting with a cup of butternut squash soup.

The next course was a salad. This was the wedge with buttermilk ranch dressing.

Heidi's appetizer was the wild mushroom ravioli. As Andrew Peterson would say, "Nice presentation!"

For the main course, I had Grouper with mashed potatoes and asparagus.

Heidi had the buttermilk chocolate cake with a side of graham cracker crumbs topped with ice cream.

It's a good thing the portions were on the small side, or they would have had to roll us out of there.

Beaver Creek Photos

I was out shopping around the same time Daniel and Heidi were walking around exploring. Daniel had his camera, and he spotted me looking around Karin's home decorating store.

I used Daniel's camera to take this cute photo of them in the plaza.

Then Daniel took this cute photo of me in the same spot.

Then Heidi took this cute photo of me and Daniel!

After I went back to the condo, they continued on to some art galleries. Walt Horton did the sculpture called "Repentance" which is on a table in our family room. He died in 2010, but his son, Jessie, has carried on the sculpting business. This is a photo Daniel took of him at work.

A customer came in the shop with two French Bulldogs and let them run around the art gallery. Daniel got this really cute shot of them waiting at the door to get out.

My Christmas Baby

Today was Daniel's "golden birthday" - he turned 26 on the 26th of December.

We celebrated by having dinner at the Dusty Boot in Beaver Creek.

Happy Birthday, Daniel!

Wedding Preparations

Here are some photos from the day before the wedding.

First off, Kendall and her mom hosted a bridesmaids lunch for those who could make it. With all they had to do that day, it was so sweet of them to have us over.

From there, we went to the nail salon and all had mani-pedis. Kendall is here with her maid of honor - Kaitlyn - who was so excited to finally get her photo on my blog!

Kendall - getting all prettied up!

We barely had time to catch our breath before we had to get to the church on time for the rehearsal.

After the rehearsal, we went to Blue Canyon Tavern in Twinsburg for a very nice dinner. I will have photos of that event at a later time when Elizabeth finishes editing them.

Kendall and several of her bridesmaids went to Brookside Farms (the wedding venue) to spend the night in the farm house. This house is amazing! I saw it the next morning. All of the furniture, accessories and dishes are antiques. Such a neat place to stay.

Meanwhile, back at our house, Peter was having a sleepover of his own with some of his groomsmen! Three to a bed - why not!
